How to Build a Website Webinar 9.28.2023

Imagine you have a business, but no one knows about it. With a website, you can reach a global audience and promote your business 24/7. You can showcase your products or services, collect leads, and even sell online. But building a website can be daunting, especially if you don't have any technical skills.

In this webinar, you'll learn everything you need to know to create a beautiful and functional website, even if you're a complete beginner. We'll cover everything from choosing a domain name and web hosting provider to creating your website content and designing your pages.

DIY or Hire it out to a Designer

Should small business owners create their own websites or outsource to a web designer? That depends on a few factors, such as your budget, time constraints, and technical skills.

If you're on a tight budget and have the time, you can certainly create your own website using simple web design tools. However, it's important to keep in mind that creating a website takes time and effort. You'll need to learn about web design basics, choose a web hosting provider and domain name, and then create your website content.

If you don't have the time or technical skills to create your own website, you can outsource it to a web designer. This can be a good option if you have a specific vision for your website or if you need a complex website with features such as e-commerce or online booking.

How to Find a Qualified Web Designer

If you do need to hire it out, there are a few things you can do to find a qualified web designer:
  • Ask for recommendations from friends, family, or colleagues.
  • Search for web designers in your area online.
  • Read reviews of web designers on websites like Yelp or Google.
  • Once you've found a few potential web designers, interview them to learn more about their experience and process.

Know Your Audience

Before you start creating your website, it's important to know your audience. Who are you trying to reach with your website? What are their needs and interests? Once you know your audience, you can tailor your website content and design to appeal to them. For example, if your target audience is small business owners in the Los Angeles area, you'll want to include information about your business services and how to contact you. You may also want to include images and videos of your business and team.

Understanding Website Jargon

There's a lot of jargon associated with web design and development. Can you define some of the most common terms?
  • Domain name: The unique address of your website on the internet.
  • Web hosting: The service that stores your website files and makes them accessible to visitors.
  • Website builder: A software application that makes it easy to create a website without having to know how to code.
  • CMS (content management system): A software application that makes it easy to manage and update your website content
  • Sitemap: A blueprint of your website that shows the hierarchy of your pages and how they are interconnected.
Just like a house, you wouldn't have a room in your house that didn't have a purpose, and the same holds true for a website. You shouldn't have a page on your site that doesn't have a purpose.

I have added your content to the website jargon section and emphasized the importance of having a purpose for each page on your website.
